Aren't we always waiting for the next phase/season/journey to begin. When we are little we want to be a little bit older so that we can do more things ourselves & have more freedom. When we are in high school we can't wait to be in college. When we are in our 20's we can't wait to be in our 30's (well, maybe that was just me & just because I was excited to turn 30 a few years ago does not mean I hold that same anticipation for getting into the 40's.) Why is that? Why don't we do a better job at living in the NOW? I read somewhere once that if God were to reveal to us where we would be in a few years 50% of us would just try to skip ahead to that step & 50% of us would start living in fear of failure of what was to come not believing that they were going to be able to get to that step. That would be so sad to be one of those who would want to skip ahead to miss all of the little great moments that make us the season we are in right now. To miss that one amazing sunset, to not have that one really great belly laugh that makes you cry, to not be able to see a child's face when it lights up in recognition, to miss out on all of those great snuggle times on the couch. There are a lot of not so great moments we would miss out on as well, but missing out on those would mean we wouldn't be getting the preparation we need in order to survive the next trial that would come our way or we would be missing out on how to encourage someone who is in the midst of something we'd already would have gone through, missing out on seeing a part of God's plan for our life revealed. He already knows our lives from beginning to end & that assurance should motivate us to slow down, to cherish, savor, & appreciate the present moment, the NOW, we are living in.
what a great post! i don't know why it is so hard to live in the now?!? maybe it's the anticipation of what's to come or being uncontent, or maybe both, not sure. but it is one of those things that takes a conscious effort to do-to enjoy each moment. if we don't make this effort than our busy lives will steal the preciousness of moments.
ReplyDeleteHello Sis! Is it because your older sis is in her 40's that you don't look forward to it?? :)
ReplyDeleteI love your post. If we knew that we would be doing this right now, I wouldn't have wanted to be here, but you are right, we would have missed out on some major blessing and prep. for the next steps to come. Thanks for being so honest. I love you and miss you all. I also am back to being connected online. :)
